Bitch Chess

When we talk of nightstands and soft plans and firm hands for squeezing, we are really talking about finding some meaning through feelings exciting and startling and pleasing. When we say hello we are gauging each other: running searches using key terms like lover and hypothesizing the opinions of mothers. We remain covered most of the time – but now and again I glimpse in your eyes, catch in your movement, hear in your sighs – a small hint at something ineffably distant that’d free me from cliches of life as a prison. You make it easy for daydreams to envision that when the store closes and its dark and late, there is somebody back home I know who will wait – somebody so lovely who repeats my name as often as I repeat hers.
